Watersense Certification and Fixtures for Homes

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

The EPA has come out with a new certification program to test and label water efficient fixtures and watering devices to save water in and outside buildings.  The program tests each device and certifies that it is at least 30% more efficient then the current standard and that it actually performs well also.  Currently the EPA certifies toilets, faucet aerators, bathroom faucets, urinals and shower heads.  They also have plans to add kitchen faucet swivel aerators and landscape irrigation controls.  A typical family of 4 in the United States used 400 gallons per day.  If you had a home with all Watersense fixtures in the home plus used native landscaping and used efficient dishwashers and clothes washers, then a family of 4 could cut their water use to 160 gallons per day.  That is a huge savings.  Check out their program and if you are thinking of replacing fixtures or building a home, then please consider Watersense and save yourself money.
